Central School Board selects Dr. Jennifer R. Kubista for its next Superintendent
The Central School District 13J Board of Directors is delighted to announce Dr. Jennifer R. Kubista as the District's next Superintendent. Kubista will start her role on July 1, 2017, succeeding current Superintendent Buzz Brazeau. Kubista and the School Board are working on the terms of a tentative agreement which will be finalized at a public meeting in the near future.
“We had an outstanding response of over 35 applicants for the Superintendent position of which we selected 11 candidates for the initial interview. Our search committee was made up of CEA, OSEA, District Office, and community members. After the initial interviews, we selected three finalists who were invited to spend a day in our District, touring schools, meeting staff, teaching a lesson to CHS students, and meeting members of the community,” Board Chair Steve Love said. “We concluded the day with a final round of interviews with the School Board. Jennifer Kubista emerged as the right fit to lead our District into a very successful future.”
In accepting the position, Kubista shared “I am honored to serve as the next Superintendent for Central School District 13J. From my initial research and visits of the school district, Independence, Monmouth, and Western Oregon University, it is clear that together we have similar missions, visions, and values that are essential in serving the students, staff, families, and the communities. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to serve as your PreK-12 educational leader and look forward to learning, living, and working together.”
“Through a team approach, I want to develop a continuous culture of learning for students, teachers, support staff and administration focused on the whole child.” Kubista said. “These high impact teams will concentrate on student learning and growth to develop leaders and future leaders. Creating a positive culture of high expectations and support is a key element of my leadership style.”
Jennifer Kubista has been the Director of Student Life in the Tacoma School District for the past 6 years where she is responsible for implementing the Whole Child initiative district-wide among other duties. Located in Tacoma, Washington the school district has about 30,000 students. She also served as the Director of Athletics and Activities while at Tacoma. Previously, Kubista served as the Commissioner of the Columbia Empire Volleyball Association in Beaverton, Oregon for 2 years. She has been recognized with the Northwest PBIS Network Champions Award in 2014 and as Athletic Director of the Year in 2010 by the Washington Secondary Schools Athletic Administrators Association. She is completing her work in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Influence Leader Program, which will finish at the end of the 2016-17 school year. Kubista has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Seattle University and a Masters of Arts degree in Education from the University of Connecticut.
