Special Programs

‚ÄčThe Special Programs Department facilitates the systems that locates, identifies, evaluates and supports all children with disabilities, 5 to age 21. Programs provide a variety of learning experiences designed to meet a wide range of physical, mental, social and emotional abilities. 

Health Services and the Positive Behavior Support Program are also included in the Special Programs Department. For more information, please call 503-606-2261.
 



Special Education


Special education services are available at each school within the Central School District to serve students who have been identified as eligible for special education services.  

Students identified as eligible for special education services must meet the following two requirements:

  • Federal and state eligibility requirements as having a disability in at least one of 11 handicapping condition categories.

  • Need specially designed instruction.

The Willamette Education Service District (WESD) provides educational services for eligible children birth to kindergarten.  For children younger than kindergarten, please telephone WESD 503-540-4424.

Section 504

A civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities.  Section 504 ensures that the child with a disability has equal access to an education, which may include accommodations and modifications.

Health Services


The District facilitate vision screenings and coordinates management of chronic health problems such as; asthma, diabetes, and seizures. The district nurse is an advocate for linking home, school, and the medical community in support of student success.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

A proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success.  Central School District has a district-wide PBIS team as well as a PBIS team in each schools.
